In the basin

Goodding’s black willow and red willow (S. laevigata) — and sometimes coyote willow (S. exigua) — stand with Fremont cottonwood where water stays near the surface. The park lists Goodding willow as its own plant association. Desert willow (Chilopsis linearis) is a wash catalpa relative, already written up separately. Do not merge the two. Wikipedia and Calflora have the Salix pages.
