The kangaroo-rat page’s smaller lookalike. Pocket mice walk and scurry; they do not hop on huge hind legs. Several Chaetodipus and Perognathus species occur in the Mojave. This is a genus-level page, same pattern as kangaroo-rat. Wikipedia’s Chaetodipus account and the park mammal list are the roster, not a backyard ID key.
